Its that time of the week people.... where I post Grey's Anatomy spoilers on my blog. But this time, I'm really torn between listing down the spoilers and not listing down the spoilers... cause I really don't want to spoil it for you all. But I have so many things to say and I really need to blog about it. Cause this time, its the big one. Its the finale. The last episode of the third season. *Sob!* So I'm saying to all of you out there who watch Grey's and don't want to be spoilt, don't proceed any further than this.
Grey's Anatomy, Season 3 Episode 25 - Didn't We Almost Have It All. Didn't we almost have it all, indeed.
I think we tend to get so caught up in the moments of our lives and then we realize that everything that we have or may have, may not be exactly what we want or wish for. And then we give it up. Or we lose it. And then we realize that seriously, we shouldn't have given it up or let ourselves lose it. So in the end, we ask ourselves the rhetorical question, "Didn't we almost have it all?"
After one hell of a season, we have finally come to the end of the 3rd season of Grey's Anatomy. Its been a rough rough ride. We have characters dealing with issues that are significantly darker than those faced in season 2, we have relatives dying, people getting married, people almost drowning, people committing adultery and now, we have come full circle. The shocks have come, the sad sad conclusions have come. To quote Meredith, "Its all over. So over." So so over indeed.
If you haven't noticed, I'm trying to postpone the writing of the spoilers, entirely for your sake. See. I have given those of you out there who are still wavering enough time for you to turn back (if you want to that is). Although I must admit, all the tantalizing bits and pieces that I have left along the way would probably do nothing in helping to reduce the level of enticement faced by you guys. But if you are still here, then be warned because after this paragraph, its gonna be all spoilers, spoilers and more spoilers along the way! So turn back now!
Seriously. SERIOUSLY. Seriously.
... ... (You were warned!)
Its the finale. And questions have been answered. Who is the Chief's candidate for Chief? Not Addison - no surprises there, cause she is, after all, going to LA. Not Burke, cause seriously, did you expect Richard to give it to him after he sorta betrayed his trust with the shaky hand? Not Sloan - which is sorta a bit of a non surprise, yet also a surprise to me. I always thought Sloan would have made an interesting Chief, and that the Chief had every reason to choose him, because, Richard wouldn't mind ruining Sloan's life. Haha. Also, it'll be an interesting place for Sloan's character to be, to advance as a character in season 4. So yes. Its Derrek, only the twist is that Derrick doesn't want it. He throws it back at Richard, telling him that Richard is STILL the best man for the job. Which leaves us wondering if Richard is gonna take this offer seriously, and whether he chooses to stay on, especially since its sorta hinted that he and Adele are gonna stay together now. So let the speculation begin.
Who is Chief Resident? Surprisingly, it isn't Bailey. Its Callie. Understandably, Bailey's sad. Disappointed, betrayed, all those kind of stuff. The poor girl thought she had the place firmly in her hands, especially after the chief sorta anointed her as the chosen one. But alas, it isn't her. She feels like she's lost it, when just a season ago, she seemed to have it all. And its a lesson for Bailey, and if we have seen any change in Bailey, its the way she's become less of the Nazi that she is. We see she's vulnerable, she has doubts, she has feelings. And it'll be interesting to see how she reacts to not being the top dog any more in the next season, especially when her interns are now gonna be residents.
Speaking of her interns... not all make it through the test. George fails. When faced with the option of retaking his internship year, or giving up his place at Seattle Grace, he seemingly choses the latter, in what appears to be a seemingly convenient move to end the whole Callie-George-Izzie triangle. But then he meets the new batch of interns, which happens to include the very infamous girl from the bar. And surprise surprise - she's Lexie Grey. Mer's very own half sister who's coming to SGH, and form the looks for it, has the same taste in men as her elder sister. (sorta expected that really. Hehe.) Something tells me that George is gonna repeat his internship year, and that way, we are gonna see more of little Lexie... who is quite hot by the way.
Alex and Ava. She leaves, but not before he gives Alex a choice. To give her a reason to stay in Seattle, to leave her bad marriage. In an unbelievably heartbreaking scene, she beseeches, even begs Alex to tell her the words she wants to her, to tell her to say it, to tell her to stay, to give her a reason to stay. But he doesn't say it. He can't commit. He tells her to stick to her decent, but boring husband. He lets her go. And how ironic it is that it is Addison who finally makes him come to his senses, that he loves Ava, and shouldn't give up the opportunity to be with her. So he runs back to find her. But its too late. She's gone. (Frankly, I was quite happy they didn't end up together because I really didn't want another Denny situation.)
Izzie and Callie. Two women fighting for the same man, oblivious to the fact that the same man they love, is right now, in his own state of crisis. Izzie declares her love for George, in what is a typical Izzie move. Which is in direct contradiction to what she did in her previous episode where she denies having feelings for him. She also asks George if he loves her, demands to know that George loves her - thankfully, we aren't treated with the answer. Meanwhile, Callie wants to have a baby, and George compiles to her request. And in what could be seen as Callie issuing a challenge to Izzie, she tells Izzie that she's been appointed as Chief Resident and that George and her are gonna try to have a baby. So she's issuing a challenge to Izzie, telling Izzie that she's both her boss at work, and that she and George are taking their relationship to the next level. So the love triangle, made even more complicated with George failing his exams, is still unsettled... and we can be sure we are gonna see more of it in the next season.
Meredith and Derrek. Cristina and Burke. Two couples in love. But somehow we get the feeling, these two couples are really actually just one problematic couple, just extensions of each other really. Meredith needs to see Cristina get married, because she needs to believe in Cristina being able to find her happy ending.(which she feels, is a direct reflection of her own ability to find happiness.) She needs to have something to believe in. She needs this wedding as much as Cristina herself needs it. Cristina is, meanwhile, having cold feet, but she handles herself well, and surprises everyone when she doesn't bail. (not when everybody expects her to.) She doesn't run away, and although she does freak out at one point because her vows have been scrubbed off, Meredith manages to convince her that she can do this. And she can do this! She's actually determined to do it. And just when she is about to start walking down the aisle, Burke does the unimaginable. He walks in and cancels the wedding. Telling her that she's free, that he's sorry for making her the person that she has becoming, so different from the Cristina he and everyone knows. All this despite having written such an amazing set of vows for Cristina, he suddenly realises that the woman he is marrying, is no longer the woman that he loves, that he has changed her, with all his pushing, into someone else. The utter sadness of it all. AND HE ACTUALLY LEAVES HER.
And Cristina is devastated. So utterly devastated. In one of Sandra Oh's most amazing scenes ever, she screams, 'He left. I'm Free. DAMN IT!' And the last scene where Meredith rushes to be with her best friend in her most desperate time of need, helping her remove the choker given to her by Mrs Burke, and cut off the wedding gown, and then just hugging her. Oh my god. So so sad, so so tragic. And it has a kind symmetry to that of the ending of the first episode of the season, where Meredith helps Izzie out of her prom dress. Sigh. Poor Cristina. I hate to see her so distraught. Makes me so sad.
And you can see that Meredith is severely affected by this, because she sees this as a parallel of what is going on in her own relationship with Derrick. She now feels that there is no possible happy ending for both Cristina and her, and she sorta effectively hints that she is ending her own relationship with Derrek as well, in which she sees there is absolutely no future with him, because she holds the view that the relationship will only end like Burktina's did - in disaster. And this had to happen immediately after the conversation she has with Derrek, where he asks if she was really committed to the relationship like he was, and if she saw no future in being with him, to cut him loose. So will it be the end of Mer and Der? I dunno. But the sudden appearance of Lexie Grey in SGH isn't going to make things any easier for them.
And so we are left with alot of questions and new possibilities for our favourite doctors in Seattle. I love them, and I feel so sad after the finale. Especially the last few scenes of Cristina just breaking down. SO so sad. 2 months before any new episodes of Grey's come to life, and for now, we can only speculate about the things to come. Lets hope the next season wouldn't be so tragic and sad. Let the interns, who are now residents, be the ones bullying people! Woohoo! =p
To cap it all off. A nice song from Grey's itself. "Breakable by Ingrid Michaelson"
