starcraft 2, the trilogy

Well, its been announced that Starcraft 2 is going to be released as a trilogy of 3 separate campaigns, each over 30 missions long! Reactions by the massive hordes of fans have so far been mixed, but I've gotta say I can't wait for all 3 installments to be released and that I'm definitely going to buy them all! WOO HOO!
Hopefully the first installment will be out next year.

i live for the swarm!
Blizzard Entertainment has made my day VERY special by finally releasing information about the Zerg. Yes, the Zerg, the last playable race of the Starcraft universe, has FINALLY ARRIVED!

According to reports so far, the Zerg have QUITE a number of new units, and retained a number of old classic ones. The Zerglings and Mutalisks were announced to be making a return quite a long time ago, as were the Ultralisks, which were also revealed to be in the game just a couple of weeks before. And today, we were given confirmation that three other classic units were making a comeback, namely the Hydralisks, Lurkers and the Queen, though the Zerg Queen has undergone a total transformation and is now RADICALLY different from its original incarnation!

Also, it has become quite clear that the Zerg is shaping up into a race that emphasizes more on ground motility and ground swarm tactics. While this has always been the case for the Zerg, this emphasis on total ground power has become more obvious in Starcraft 2. The number of unique types of ground troops that the Zerg now have is a staggering 10, while they only appear to have a total of 4 Zerg fliers. This clearly distinguishes them from the other races in Starcraft, including the Protoss, who have the most powerful airfleet in the Starcraft universe, and the Terrans, who are like a transition point between the two races.

Here are some radical screenshots of the newly released Zerg!

A battle between a swarm of new Zerg Corrupters against two Terran Battlecruisers.

The Zerg Swarm on the move: In this picture, you can see Hydralisks, Zerglings, Ultralisks, Lurkers and new units such as the Banelings, Infestors and Roaches, all scurrying about to invade the nearby terran base. The Zerg swarm just looks SO DAMN COOL.

A squad of Hydralisks and Lurkers attacking a Protoss defence encampment. The Protoss are really getting owned.

Zerg on Zerg attack. You can see the newly modified Zerg Queen in this. In the original Starcraft, she was a Zerg flier. Now she's really found a new niche in the Hive structure of the Zerg and has evolved into a ground unit - apparently, she's like a defense co-ordinator of the hive, with abilities to allow her to effectively defend the Zerg hive clusters. And you'll are currently only allowed to build one Queen in a single game, though this cap might changed considering how they removed the cap on the Protoss Mothership.

There are more Zerg screenshots and new demo videos on the net! ZERG GALORE!

GLORY TO THE SWARM!

unburrowing
OMG! I have INTERNET! This is one of the happiest things that could have happened to me in a long long time! The past two days were horrible for me because moving house sucks. So much hard work, I really missed mugging! And not to mention the internet and SCV connection were both down for the whole of yesterday: miraculously, both services are now fully restored! Only thing left is the lack of air conditioning and telephone lines before the whole house would be restored to pre-moving order!

And guess what? In celebration of my revitalized internet connection, Blizzard leaked a photo of the new ZERG ULTRALISK! WOO HOO! I am a Zerg fanatic, and my Starcraft race of choice is the Zerg, so I'm fanatical for any amount of Zerg related information that Blizzard's willing to let slip right now, because its so unfair for them to keep withholding info on the Zerg when we have been treated with so much information on the Protoss and Terrans already. But anyway, with the reveal of the Ultralisk, it officially brings the total number of Zerg unit reveals to a miserly 5. And here they are:

The mighty Ultralisk! These beasts are the largest of all Zerg units, with massive sabre like tusks to slash their opponents into pieces. It looks so different from its original form, which had a mammoth like appearance. It looks like a giant lobster on legs this time round. Lets see how Blizzard's going to tweak the character design again.
Next to the mammoth Ultralisk is the tiny Zergling. Staple unit of Zerg armies. Nothing much to say here. Zerglings have always been somewhat constant in terms of appearance, so there's not much room to nitpick really.

The floating creature is the Overlord! I think the new Overlord design is freaking cool. I love it loads, because its definitely an improvement on the original design. This new design gives it a more alien look. Cool.
The green little things there are the first truly NEW Zerg units introduced into the game - the Banelings. While all other Zerg units revealed so far were also featured in the original, Banelings are totally novel. These suicide bombers are evolved from the basic Zerglings, and they look damn cool in action when they were featured in the very first Protoss gameplay demo ages ago. Judging from their introduction, I think we have lots more delightful new Zerg units to come.

The Mutalisk, the standard Zerg flier. The Mutalisk was one of my other favourite Zerg unit, the other being the classic Hydralisk. I think the Mutalisk look damn cool too, and their flying and attacking animation looks perfect in the Protoss intro video as well.

I love ZERG. Can't wait for the rumoured big Zerg release coming up in May or August. ARGH!

Starcraft II

I've waited over 10 years for this day. STARCRAFT II is going to be released next year! WOO HOO!
I miss the days where I commanded hordes of Zerg to slaughter the Terrans and Protoss.
Its scary to think that I first played Starcraft when I was in Primary School, but it was (and still is) one of my favourite games ever. Great storyline, great characters, great game play, great effects.
Its about time they released a sequel man!

Take a look at the previews of new units for the Protoss and Terren right here. They have yet to release any sneak peeks of the Zerg though, and I can hardly wait. I love the Zerg... and all the classic units. Sigh.

Thanks to Chong Keat for telling me about the latest developments in the game!
I feel like replaying the original now!

weekend mornings are for wasting
Weekend mornings are just about the most non-existent times in the world.
Its just impossible to get anything done. For starters, you wake up late. Its like a natural reflex or something, the body JUST knows if its a weekend, and would then adjust its internal body clock to make you wake up at a much later time than when you would normally be up.
Then there's the amazing platter of TV shows on air on a weekend morning. There's cartoons, there are repeats of taiwanese variety shows, there's a whole ER marathon for BOTH Saturday and Sunday mornings. Its no wonder I don't actually get any work done on weekend mornings. Haha.

Anyway... I did what I swore to do yesterday, which was to play two extremely long rounds of AOE3. Two free-for-alls, two battles of me building huge powerful armies and pounding the opponents into mush. I love it when my cannons fire and hit some opponents army or (even better!) villagers; then they give a mighty big shriek and get thrown into the air and fly over like ten feet, before crashing down and that's it - they're dead.
Okay, I know the whole chunk up there sounded weird. But heh, that's how I unwind, either blog angry entires, listen to sad, melancholic music, or play video games where I get to, single-handedly slaughter whole civilisations with cannons and guns.

Watched ER this morning. Its up to season 3 already! Woo-hoo. Just another 9 more seasons to go before I manage to catch up with the latest season that's still airing on American TV right now. Haha.
Anyway, my favourite character, the medical student John Carter just graduated in one of the episodes! So he's now John Carter, M.D.! And that was the title for the finale of season 2.
It was kinda nice to see him finally being called as a Doctor. No more 'Mr.Carter', everyone calls him 'Dr. Carter' now. And his mentor gave him a labcoat with the words 'John Carter, M.D.' printed on it. His first lab-coat as a Doctor. Pretty neat huh.
But of course, his first day as an intern was a disaster. Haha. He had tons of blood splurting at him, and had to handle both the ICU and the ER. Makes me shudder thinking about my future as a clueless houseman. Sigh.

Oh I love this song by 五月天.
The tune isn't much, but I love the lyrics.

"世界纷纷扰扰喧喧闹闹 / 什麼是真实
为你跌跌撞撞傻傻笑笑 / 买一杯果汁
就算庸庸碌碌匆匆忙忙 / 活过一辈子
也要分分秒秒年年日日 / 全心守护你
最小的事(最重要的事)"
- 最重要的小事 by 五月天
So erm, sweet right? Bittersweet maybe. But yeah, I think its very meaningful.

The MVs extremely draggy though, just skip the first and last min or so to get to the song proper.

Sigh. I think I shall stop and go do some studying now.
