Strictly speaking, I only turned 21 around 3 hours ago, because I'm a noon baby. But anyway, I woke up this morning realizing that I survived a chaotic party last night to be officially 21. There's not much difference really, being 20 and 21, but its still a good feeling knowing that I can now vote in the next elections. I have very little photos with me right now, and strangely, they are all rather, erm, badly taken, so I'll wait for the nicer photos to come to me before I post any up here.
I would like to thank all my wonderful friends who came down last night to attend that rather chaotic, messy and boring party of mine. And all the wonderful well-wishes and presents. This person is quite touched. And to all my other friends who couldn't make it but still sent me well wishes and stuff, thank you so much as well! I hope to meet you all soon yah!
I am currently enjoying the new surround sound provided by my new set of Creative speakers. Now that I don't have to listen to earphones 24/7 while using the computer, I'm sure that my hearing will improve!
I'll sign off now because I want to enjoy the remainder of my birthday slacking away!
Update @ 2355: Argh, just came back from HCCO's biennial concert and I am super duper pissed with a Zhong Ruan junior of mine who stood up halfway through a song and walked across the stage just to get the spare instrument, and then blatantly traced his steps back across the stage to his seat. I mean, COME ON, use your bloody brain. Even if the strings of your instrument has snapped halfway through a song, you do not do the unthinkable and stand up to change your instrument; you act like a bloody professional and just sit through the song, playing what you can with the remaining of your bloody strings. Bloody block head. Standing up halfway through a song while the rest of the orchestra is still playing is bloody unprofessional. It is the kind of action that I would expect of an imbecile, not some student from Hwa Chong. Argh. HORRENDOUS.
I CANNOT BELIEVE that I gave up free tickets to Angela Zhang's concert for a concert that was riddled with disappointment. I may be 21, but I still make stupid choices.
Sigh. So much for being a person with good character. Grrrr.
I was thinking of something smart to blog about today when I realized that this week's gonna be the last week that I'll ever spend as a juvenile delinquent. Wow. Its kinda eerily quirky that my last week as a 20 year old coincides with my last week of the Clinical Skills Foundation Course. So with the start of M3, I'm going to approach my life as an adult: no more shirking of responsibilities and duties, and do do everything with the maturity of an adult. I will not be so immature and childish anymore.
My last week as a 20 year old. Let's hope it'll be a good one.
Today was spent at Xiaoyan's little get together. The irony of it all is that Xiaoyan's actual birthday falls on the 3rd of June, which is in fact just 2 days after MY VERY OWN actual birthday, so while I am older than her by two days, she gets to have her party BEFORE my own party, which is all so weird and quirky in a chaotic kind of way. Anyway, it was nice seeing some members of 71 that I have not seen in ages, people like Yihan, Sharleen Han, Charleen Soh, people from 71 whom I was considerably less close to (which is saying ALOT because I'm hardly not close with ANYONE in 71.) And it was fun seeing Xiaoyan again! Its always great to see your fellow Gemini and prankster, because when she's around, I can relax and cut back on the sarcastic jibes and nonsense. We can both share the workload when we are both around. Haha.
Let me pause to say that while I'm very proud of the fact that my brain seems to have no jurisdiction over the the confines of normality, the quirky things I do sometimes really annoys me. There are times when I wish my brain wasn't so unorthodox and that I could do things that normal people would do, like arrive at a party on time and not one hour before hand and find yourself horribly horrible alone, so much so that you decide to walk around to do away with the extra time and just stop yourself from feeling like a complete bodoh. But yeah, sometimes I do things that even I don't really understand. Its a curse that will never go away, as true insanity is really just true genius that is not understood.
I sincerely swear that I am up to nooooooo good.
Oh and seeing how we were able to create so much havoc today really makes me quite worried about the amount of chaos that 71 would bring to my own birthday party. Not that I mind the chaos, because a little bit of chaos here and there is really kinda, fun, and 71-chaos, is HELL LOTS of fun. But seriously, if the people present today could already create such a substantial amount of chaos (though, I have to admit that I do have a part to play in the chaos created), I shudder to think of the amount of madness they will create when a larger number of them appears during my party. Let's hope I managed to retain my sanity after the 31st, and ACTUALLY live to see my actual birthday.
I sincerely swear that they are all up to nooooooo good.
Anthony's 21st dinner party was held at Au Petit Salut, a posh French restaurant in the Dempsey Hill area. As one of his JC classmates who was invited, I must say that I feel extremely honored and flattered: today was probably the first time I've ever attended such a posh and classy dinner party.
Here's some tips I picked up during the dinner on how to host a perfect dinner party: 1. Book a private function room. 2. Hire a private French chef and his assistant. 3. Have your own waiting staff. 4. Serve champagne. Lots and lots of it. 5. Serve finger food. Lots and lots of it. 6. Serve a 6 course meal of exquisite French cuisine. 7. Make sure one of your closest friends get drunk. (but make sure he doesn't puke at the dinner table!) 8. Invite some of your closest friends to engage in some fine dining! 9. Keep the atmosphere light and casual. 10. Be a gracious host.
All in all, Anthony's dinner party was a blast. The food was absolutely delicious, the atmosphere superb, the company priceless. It was fun dinning with some of the 71ians, as we struggled to hide our lack of etiquette and attempt to look civilized and cultured. But then again, 71 being 71, we ended up doing and saying utterly stupid and childish things. I dunno why we never seem to be able to grow up. We are all gradually turning 21 this year but it seems that we'll never be able to lose that child-like spirit of ours completely. Maybe its a good thing though because it makes our memories of the class so much more memorable.
I'm sure many of you out there gambled during the holidays, but I'm willing to bet I'm the person who lost the most. Over the course of the first three days of CNY, I've lost a total of over 103 dollars: 43 to Mahjong, and 60 to a horrific game called Tim. Yes, what can I say? I belong to a family of really really generous gamblers - we really aim to hit it big. You should see the adults play poker! At one point, my Dad lost over a thousand dollars and my Mom lost over 700 dollars.
The good news is that I managed to recover some losses. I just finished a game of Mahjong with my mom, dad, and brother, and I managed to win a total of 20 dollars. Wonderful. I was actually winning over 130 dollars at the end of the 1st round, but my family insisted on playing at least 2 rounds, which did not go well with me. I KNOW MY LIMITS. I have absolutely no stamina in long games of Mahjong (or anything for that matter) and whatever amazing luck and brilliance I had in the first round promptly vanished with the commencement of the next round. That was how I lost 43 dollars in the previous days as well. It was through sheer perseverance and grit that I managed to even hold on to any amount of winnings today. Thank god I did because if I were to lose even more money today, I would freak out and throw myself down the gutter.
I sometimes wonder if this sort of behavior is really good for our moral development, and that if we are that rich to squander such wealth away. It is not only us, adults who gamble quite heavy handedly, my younger cousins also gamble quite heavily as well. Their average winnings per round of games range from like 10 to 15, which was way more than what I played for when I was their age. And they are crazy about winning money! You should watch them fight it out for their money, its really scary. And when the younger ones lose money, they'll come asking you for a loan, which I find totally amusing and a tad bit alarming.
AND, lest some pesky friends of mine start taking attempting to take the mickey out of me, I must hereby state that I am NOT that rich. I think my family just loves gambling during CNY, because it makes the whole festival so much more festive. I probably wouldn't love CNY that much if I didn't have this annual gambling fest to look forward to.
Another note: The first week of CNY is coming to an end, which means, my break is over. By right, I am supposed to start revision for the upcoming CAs, but by left, I am not doing so. This is very very sad indeed.
Random note: Mahjong is really such a deep, fascinating game.
Happy CNY! I know many of my English educated friends hate CNY, but then I also happen to know a number of my Chinese educated friends who hate CNY as well, so there's really no understanding why so many of my peers dislike it. Despite the overwhelming dislike for it, I must say that no matter how cynical and jaded I become, CNY will always be an important part of my social calendar. That's because I'm an oddity in this world! I know it can be a pain in the ass to go on all those sometimes meaningless house visits but when you are like me, who witnessed a gradual decrease in the number of house visit stops you have to make annually, you realise the importance of such annual visits - there's no knowing who you won't get to ever see again in the next year.
And thanks to my brother, I don't have to face any questions about whether I have a girlfriend or when I am getting married! He absorbs all such questions, while I face the obligatory furore about being a future doctor.
And there's mahjong. And Bakwa. And pesky cousins. And more mahjong and bakwa. Its the perfect season to fall sick.
Must make a mental note to do some studying too!
Wishing you all a very very prosperous and non verminated year of the Rat! HUAT AH!
DAMN THE VIDEO'S GOOD. I love the way they used all the footages of important historical events and people... it really puts perspective to the whole evolution of modern society and the screwed up journey mankind has so far embarked upon. And the last few images of Hilary and Obama - there's no knowing what the future holds if either wins the US presidency. Again, this begs the question of where we are all headed to: the depths of inferno and hell, or even greater heights. This song is most defintiely going to be my theme for 2008.
"I believe the world is burning to the ground Oh well, I guess We're gonna find out Let's see how far we've come
I believe its all is coming to an end Oh well, I guess We're gonna pretend Let's see how far we've come" - "How Far We've Come", Matchbox Twenty
Fantastic NEW song by Matchbox Twenty! I love Matchbox Twenty, so any new album by them, even if its a greatest hits album, is good news to me. Just so happens the lyrics sorta fit the fact that its a new year right now. Okay, maybe they are a tab bit apocalyptic, but if you don't read it literally, you'll see that its actually really about taking stock of what we've done so far. And that's exactly what you do every time a new year comes.
I just woke up from staying up all night. 2008 has so far, been pretty much surreal. The last few hours of 2007, and the first few hours of 2008, was spent facing old demons, exploring new possibilities, reliving old memories and embracing new beginnings.
Ironically, one of the last things I did for 2007 was watch a rather depressing film about the end of the world. It wasn't the best film to watch on new year's eve, because it makes you fatalistic and wanna kill yourself because you wonder if there's ever any hope for mankind in the future. Plus 'I Am Legend' is a terrifying thriller, because of the resonating loneliness it generates. While not as gory as '28 Weeks Later', it was infinitely more terrifying because it plays with your mind. It plays on the very human fear of loneliness, it plays on human fears of being alone: one person against a whole army of flash eating zombies. A clever film that was intelligently crafted! While the ending of the movie is a tab bit anticlimactic, the film is a good one because of its intense ability to thrill and raise the heightened sense of fear in you. The scene in the dark cellar, where we first encounter said zombies was particularly frightening. *shudder* Watch it if you love horror thrillers, or if you love Will Smith, because the star is fantastic as the conflicted military doctor hero who struggles between trying to find a cure and adapting to the emptiness of being alone. (On another hand, don't watch it if you love dogs more than you love humans!)
After watching the movie, I made my way, rather depressed and angsty, to Yisheng's house for 71's countdown get together. Played the usual drinking games, charades, mahjong, watched them play gross Indian Poker. Talked alot. And miraculously, I didn't sleep at all. Kheng Wee and I then drove the class to West Coast McDonald's for breakfast at like 5 something in the morning. After that, made my way back in the dawn, to go back to sleep til now.
2007 was a trying year, but definitely a year where I grew up by that little bit. Here's to a more fruitful (and safe!) 2008 to come! Cheers!
P.S.: A new year deserves a new blog skin. Something darker and more eerie because I've been inspired by both 'I Am Legend' and 'How Far We've Come'. Something hellish, because I believe, it all, is coming to an end. Yeah. =]
On the 23rd of December, my Christmas weekend started with a field trip to the National History Museum with 04s71 & our GP/CT tutor Mr Augustine Wong. It was the first time the class ever had an outing with Mr Wong, which was an interesting experience, but nonetheless, it was an enjoyable one. We first went to Olio Dome Cafe at the Singapore Art Museum to chill and wait for everyone to assemble, then we headed off to the History Museum to catch the exhibit of Greek artifacts from the Lourve currently on display there. Then we braved the rain to travel to Village at Heren for dinner. All in all, it was probably the most successful class outing ever, with over 16 people turning up for the museum trip or dinner. It was most certainly the highlight of my christmas weekend!
Donuts that were HC130's present to the class.
My drink at Olio Dome - Mocha with Gelato. What a treat!
HC130 taking a 'Where's Shinwei?' picture, when Shinwei is sitting just directly opposite them! Priceless expression though!
The receipt said $71.33, we got high because we were from 71.
Shinwei in a 'try-it-on Toga' at the exhibit itself. I think she'll kill me for posting this, but we all thought she looked nice in it. Can consider that as a gown for some important event or something.
GAD acting lost in the museum. I like this pic, has a nice poetic feel to it.
There was this giant flashing screen in the museum and Yisheng wanted me to act Matrix-like in front of it. I think I failed spectacularly.
Group photo of those who went to the exhibit!
The inside of a Root Beer bottle. I was bored and just experimenting with my camera.
Geraldine and Amanda.
Yisheng (whom you can't see in the dark!), Alex, Junjia, Khengwee.
Lileng and Yiling (whom I haven't seen in AGES!)
HC133! My PW group (sans Miki). Amanda, Debra, Me. I haven't seen Debra in AGES too!
Another group photo of everyone who went for dinner!
On the 24th, I spent the day doing last minute christmas shopping and wrapping. Dinner was spent at Sebastian's house, and after that, I sent Alex home. It was great fun chatting with him while driving. And I love sending people home. Gives me time to talk to them.
On the 25th, I went to my Aunt's place for a Christmas gathering. Haven't seen the whole extended family for a long time, and everyone kept going on about how I became so thin. I don't think its that much of a big deal, since I've always been so thin. But anyway, it was nice seeing them, got a few presents here and there. Stayed from lunch to dinner, and then went home to enjoy some computer gaming.
On the 26th, went to watch Mr Magorium's Magical Emporium at AMK hub. Nice film, for more details, read my entry dated 26/12/07.
And that's my long Christmas weekend. Going to school now to study. Tata!
Its the holiday season again! And so here's a big Christmas greeting to all of you out there! Have a happy Christmas and many more wonderful days to come!
I've had the weirdest Christmas weekend yet. I'm going to blog about it tomorrow or the day after, after I get photos and find the time to sit down and take my time to pen down my words. No doubt its hard to juggle between being festive and starting to study, but I guess it'll make me stronger. Once again, a big holiday greeting, to you!
HCJC MAF '07 was held on the 15th of September. It was a night filled with the same old feelings of nostalgia. I sorta think MAF is just one big excuse for HC alumnus to just keep reminiscing of the good old times that are now long gone. HC is the only JC institution that has such an event, which strengthens the whole image of everyone of us being part of this huge family. But its good! Good excuse to just temporarily forget about the present and to live in the past. (just make sure you don't get stuck living in the past for too long. =p)
I miss 71. I really do. My favourite photo is that of the label on my classbench - they haven't changed it yet! It's as if 04s71's spirit still lives on in that wooden bench that we were so proud to call ours. Sigh.
I think I speak for all 71-ians out there when I say that our CT, Mr Wong totally made our day when he sent us a SMS that night. Here's the message; its too hilarious to NOT post it here:
"It was really nice seeing so many members of the class today. What I shall remember most about 71 is the solidarity of spirit shown and the sincerity of friendship shared. What impresses me too is the admirable humility of so many of you who are indisputably high achievers on your own terms. Wanted to catch up with all of you on a one-to-one basis, but think we were somewhat pressed for time today.. We'll meet again end of the year outside of college. Should be a nice change. Can meet for dinner at say, Marche or something."
Its such a typical Mr Wong kind of message. I was laughing my hearts out when I was reading it out to a few of the girls whom I was having supper with. But even though we thought it was funny, I guess we all felt that it was also darn true. All Mr Wong did was just use his awesome command of English and express what all of us couldn't. What he was describing was just that bond that my class had. It was a unique bond, and one that I can PROUDLY say NO OTHER CLASS in HCJC HAD. We were mad when we wanted to be mad, we were hard-working when we had to be hard-working; we had loads of fun all the time, but at the end of the day, we made sure all of us produced the results that was needed. And most importantly, we tried to do everything without anyone being left behind. It was a great class to be in, filled with genuine, good-natured, good-hearted people and I love everyone of them for being that just.
Geraldine and I are trying to get all 71-ians to change their MSN personal messages to "solidarity of spirit shown and the sincerity of friendship shared." That'll be so darn cool.
Photos galore! Credit for the light up photo goes to Shinwei, wasn't around at the light up because the guys + suan went off to watch Lileng's dance concert.
Hoho! Its ALL OVER! Currently very tired right now, even though I've been taking long naps since 2. Woke up at 5 and realized with a thrill of horror that I left my shoe bag and shoes in the hotel! Don't know if anyone saw it or anything, but PLEASE return it to me! Thanks!
ANYWAY - that's a photo of the DnD committee taken right after DnD itself. I think we are all VERY happy that the whole thing's just over. I must say I had a fun time working with all the wonderful people - tiring, yes, but ulitmately fun! It was a whirlwind of emotions and stress but ultimately, we somehow managed to pull it off. Things proceeded the best way it could possibly have proceeded. At least there weren't like, horrific accidents and hiccups. The crowd this year was out of control and that added an element of chaos to the whole proceedings that made it quite terrifying. But I am glad its all over, and now we can all continue on with our normal lives and not worry too much about other matters except probably like passing our tests and mugging.
Photos will be posted up later, when I manage to really sort them out. Think I might do a collage or something, I dunno... so many photos, it'll be so unfair to just post up photos of some and not others.
I feel like retiring to bed right now, but I'm getting paranoid about PBL on tuesday! We really should get down to doing some work on it! Argh!
"And so, Sally can wait She knows its too late as she's walking on by My soul slides away But don't look back in anger
Don't look back in anger I heard you say At least not today" - Don't Look Back In Anger, Oasis
I have no idea who the hell Sally is, but hey, I've got to thank her for being the inspiration to this song. There's no knowing if Oasis would ever have written this song if dear old Sally didn't exist! So kudos for her existence, because I'm absolutely gaga over this song right now. "AND SOOOOOOO SALLY CAN WAIIIITTTTT..."
And so people, its now the 9th of August, the day Singapore celebrates! I "celebrated" my National Day by sleeping and sleeping and going grocery shopping in a horribly packed AMK hub. Quite sad considering the fact that I ended up in such a state because all my previous appointments got canceled. But oh well, I had a fun time bumming around today. I think its the first time in 2 weeks where I actually had nothing on my schedule, a much needed break from a busy busy 2 weeks. It would have been better if it wasn't for the fact that today's actually the last day of my holidays. Yes folks, school starts tomorrow, though of course I'm not actually going to school tomorrow because I have driving test in the morning... but we'll see. I have to go down to do some stuff, plus I have an appointment with GAG at like 1500, tuition at like 1930, so I'm basically in for a roller coaster ride of a day. BUT! It'll be all worthed while if I manage to get my license tomorrow!
Well. Let's hope I have good news tomorrow! Better not keep Sally waiting! I'm off for dinner and the obligatory viewing of the Parade!
Update: I wanted to leave this entry as it is, but after watching the parade, I just have to say a few words...
Am I the ONLY one out there who finds this year's parade simply excruciating to watch? It was such a painful show to watch, there wasn't just one horrific segment, there were COUNTLESS horrific segments! Let's do a quick recap shall we?
1. The Spongebob Square Pants - style display by the bunch of Primary School kids in mind numbingly cute rubber costumes. It sure looked like there was a bunch of Patricks and Squidwards running about on the stage, without a single clue as to what they were supposed to do.
2. The utterly lame name that this year's NDP committee chose for the show - 'Possibicity'. As in 'Possibility' and 'City', thus a 'City of Possibilities' equals "Possibicity"! Get it? (Argh!)
3. The super extra 'central' character of the show, called 'Sing'. His lame name notwithstanding, this character has contributed almost nothing to the show at all, unless you count him being comic relief. What's up with his costume? And why the heck is he skating round and round in between segments? I mean, what's the POINT of skating round and round and waving your hands out wide? And did you hear the lines he was speaking? Is he trying to emulate Shakespeare or something, to perhaps show the world that S'poreans are capable of speaking arty farty English? Because if that was really his intent, I must say that he failed rather miserably.
4. The segment where little girls were supposed to be little "Garden Fairies", prancing around on the floating platform, while Kit Chan was singing some song about Broadway, The Thames and LA. "GARDEN FAIRIES"? Like seriously? GARDEN FAIRIES at NDP? WTF!?!
5. The segment where animal props where being carried around. The props, are like rip offs of the props found on the West-End Musical, The Lion King. And according to the commentary, the animal forms where supposed to represent the other nations of S.E.Asia... while Singapore's represented by some green laser lion. Singapore, the lion, King of the Jungle of S.E.Asia. What a nice way to co-exist in harmony with your neighbours, by sending out subtle messages of superiority!
6. The segment where hundreds of senior citizens (and non-senior citizens) were doing Tai Chi. Seriously. Tai Chi is not for events like NDP. Tai Chi is for places like Community Centres/Clubs and parks. Not some 'live' television programme that's taking up prime time slots on TV. If I wanna watch people do Tai Chi, I would have gone to Bishan Park and watch the real experts do it, and not waste 2 hours of my bloody life watching some screwed up display of Tai Chi by a bunch of amateurs. ARGH.
Thankfully, the scene where the Ministers all gamely put on the rather ridiculous Lion Shaped hat sort of made up for the horror that was this year's NDP.
Two of my friends - Kai Liang and Wilson, turned 20 on 21st June. So happy birthday to both you guys!
Anyway, I think Kai Liang's abroad, so all I did was send him an SMS greeting. Hope he received it. As for Wilson, I met up with my 2 Sig BN buddies in the evening to celebrate Mr Bear-Bear's birthday. So after my afternoon spent with Lileng and Suan, I went to meet the guys at Dohby Gaut in the evening for dinner at Manhattan Fish Market.
Me, Xiao Hui, Vincent, Wilson, Kaiming, Wei Liang
I didn't take much photos, cause *cough* erm, I forgot to charge my batteries after returning from Europe. Yeah yeah, I know, its been what, at least a week since I've been back but I'm such a lazy procrastinator, so much so that I just couldn't bring myself to find my charger and recharge the batteries. In my defence, I did switch batteries before leaving home, just that I forgot the minor fact that both of my batteries were actually flat, so switching them didn't make much of a difference.
Anyway, we bought Wilson a small little Powerpuff Girls cake. I think he really loved it.
After dinner we decided to go walk around. The initial plan was to get Wilson drunk (my army friends are such typical army boys. Tsk tsk!) but as we finished dinner at a rather early time of 1930, we realised that there wasn't any place open that early to get someone drunk. We checked the theatres to see if we could find anything worth watching, but the timings weren't good so we scrapped the whole idea of watching a movie as well. So in the end, we decided to play pool. It was quite funny cause as usual, my amazing lack of skill in pool resurfaced again. I'm really bad at pool, because of several reasons:
1. I can't seem to choose the right ball to target. I have this apparent lack of common sense in choosing balls to hit, so much so that my friends will help me point out really obvious targets and I'll think to myself 'That was pretty obvious. Why didn't I notice that before?!?'
2. I have this amazing ability to hit the white ball such that it jumps, leapfrogging the ball I'm supposed to hit before coming back to earth and hitting some other ball that definitely wasn't my initial target. Apparently my friends think its some sort of skill - I say its just because I'm really crap at pool.
3. I am horribly attracted to the black No.8 ball. Somehow or another, I always end up committing suicide - my aim will go awry and I'll end up hitting another ball into the slots. Unfortunately, that ball always happens to be the black no.8, thus bringing my desperate attempts at staying alive to a premature end.
4. I don't really have an understanding of the physics behind the game. I know that there's lots of physics undertones in pool, with angles and forces and calculations and hit-here-and-the-ball-will-end-up-there logic. Unfortunately, I am a complete fool at physics. (some can argue that I have very little patience for common sense or logic as well) As such, I find it hard to visualize all the tips or points that my friends are trying to make. All I can think of when I play pool is to hit any ball - even if its not one that I'm supposed to hit (muahahaha!).
After pool (where I had quite a good time laughing and marveling at my amazing lack of skill in the game) we went to TCC for a little bit of caffeine and good old chit-chatting. The guys are ORD-ing in 4 to 5 months time. We discussed quite alot of plans to meet up in NUS in the coming year, cause quite a number of us are studying there. I'm actually going to be 2 years their senior when they enter the University, how weird is that? But oh well, we were saying that we should meet up in NUS, and I'll end up turning up in office year cause I'll be in clinicals by then. In fact, it'll probably be a miracle if I even managed to find time to turn up, especially if I end up getting posted at some other hospital other than NUH. But oh well. Sounds fun. It'll be cool to meet other guys of our age walking around NUS.
In the end, we never got down to getting Wilson drunk. Our dear old Cinderello, Vincent was harping to get home by 12 so we decided to call it a day after TCC. Vinnie was nice enough to send me home since we live so close to each other - he received his civilian license after getting back from Taiwan. He dropped Kaiming at a bus stop on the way back and after that it was a nice smooth drive back to my estate. I must say, its nice to have a friend who lives near you and who has a license, so so convenient. Still, can't wait to get my own. Hope I pass the 1st time round though. I think I'll get quite sianified if I failed the first time round and would probably end up procrastinating for some time before I actually attempt the test again.
Greetings from Munich! I'm having trouble with the german keyboard right now, so pardon me if I have serious grammar or language errors!
So. I'm now officially 20! Happy birthday to me! A big thank you to those who sent me well wishes one way or another. I did manage to recieve all your messages and really, thanks alot for them! Made my day alot more special.
My 1st birthday abroad, and I don't think its going to be the last one abroad. Having your birthday while being lost/stuck/drowning in a foreign land can be a very exciting experience. Definitely worthed a try. It just feels different, especially when you try to kid yourself that you aren't the age you are supposed to be til you hit S'pore. Still, its a different experience - though you still feel the same, look the same, you just know that there's a subtle difference, a subtle awareness that you've aged by a year!
I am missing the comforts of home though, and the quiet birthdays spent with my family back home. My family and I would most probably have gone out for a nice quiet dinner. I'm used to quiet birthdays, but this year I had a hell of a noisy one. I just survived a crazy night at a Munich beerhall just now, where the atmosphere was most exhilarating and we had to each drink a huge pint of beer! It was maybe too exhilarating for my liking. Haha. But oh well, it was an action packed night, which was really quite an experience. Something I will never forget.
A big thank you to the 5 of them who are on this trip with me. They celebrated my birthday at 12 midnight last night, having bought me a tiramisu cake (we were still in Venice, Italy then) and singing birthday songs and stuff. I must say they really had me. I never did suspect that they actually bought a cake for me, I seriously thought that they were buying egg tarts instead of a tiramisu cake. I must say, I was somewhat touched. Haha. Thanks once again to Zhiyong, Shihui, Xiuzhen, David and Jinrong for a great birthday!
I must say, every single year on my birthday, I try to write or think of something melancholic to reflect upon, so much so that every year, I usually end up feeling quite morose or miserable about certain stuff. This year's different though, maybe its because I'm on holiday, I dunno, but I just don't have the same depressing feeling that I usually have on birthdays. Haha. Maybe its me being cool with being 20. No longer a teen. Maybe its nonchalance. I dunno, but whatever it is, I'm cool with that. I had a great birthday and for once, I'm feeling happy on me birthday. =)
Shucks. I'll miss being a teen. Oh well. Time to grow up. Cheers!
"The Evil Old Sheep and The Young Innocent Animals"!
Heading to a cinema near you! =p
One of my cousins has this amusing 'serious' accent. The pesky young'uns were playing some sort of trivial quiz game, and she wanted to be the quiz master. I wasn't really allowed to play because 1. I was TOO OLD (humph!) and 2. I knew most of the answers and would have probably kicked their asses anyway. (=p) So I just sat there listening and watching them play, and dropping occasional cryptic hints to questions which they didn't have a single clue about. Kept laughing and laughing because my quizmaster cousin was obviously trying her best to be professional and to pronounce words that no primary three student would know... but she was so earnest in her role that it hurt. Nevermind that none of the other cousins playing understood most of the questions. It was just priceless to hear Kym speak. Hahahaha. =>
I've now been officially labelled as the "evil old sheep" by those pesky kids. Hahaha. Which is so true, so true.
Another day of visiting tomorrow. And I haven't gotten all the angpows I'm expected to get yet. Let the dole keep running in. Hehehe.
Happy happy happy new year to all of you! Its the year of the pig! The last year of a whole zodiac cycle! Where everything is supposed to be oinky and pink and dirty, and unfortunately for you weight-concious gals out there... FAT! So here's to a FAT and glorious and juicy new year to all of you! (So forget your diet plans! Its a given to gain weight in this year of the pig!)
Hohoho. Okay... wrong festival to do that, but its all in the spirit of goodwill. Haha. Its another year of hong baos, mandarin oranges, overnight (and very exhausting) gambling sessions, ba kwa, sore throats, awkward visits to nosey relatives, and maybe even temporary insanity! But I love it! But may have started to dislike it now. I mean, there's just so much chaos and disorder and nosey relatives that you can stand now that you are approaching 20 and starting to really live a grown up life. But still, the lunar new year will always be one of those things that you always look forward to in the year. And this year isn't any different.
There's less visiting to do this year, because of erm... recent bereavements in the whole extended family. Not that its a bad thing... I mean, there's less awkward family moments and stuff... But with less visits, comes less income! And I love getting hong bao money! It makes the whole sitting around with a forced smile worthed it! (That and the amazing gossips that you occasionally dig up! The best form of drama, really comes from your family!) But yes... I love my hong bao money, and this year, the need to get a larger share is more pressing so as to cover some of the expenses for my Europe trip in May/June.
Something very hilarious happened just now though. My dad and I were buying "Aladin" playing cards at 7-11 just now. And my dad did something hilarious. He promptly went up to the counter and asked the two malay shop-attendants if they still had "Adidas" Cards. (needless to say, the store didn't have "Adidas" cards)
My cousins (the whole noisy bunch) are currently beside me playing some game involving huge piles of coins. Its the first day of the Lunar New Year, and as always, my whole maternal family is here, at our house, gambling, eating, and basically making merriment. Its quite amusing to see they make noise over losing like 50 cent coins each round. The sound effects from them, really spendid. Oh well. But its tradition lah. Feels different if no one comes over to my house on the first day and tear it in down. Yup. Something constant in this crazy world.
Oh shit. They whole bunch of them just decided to crash my room. I've got to control the whole mad bunch of them! LEAVE MY MOORE ALONE!!!
